Meanwhile Gardens

This under fives play hut blends into the greenery of the existing tree line reducing the hard visual impact and creating a warm, secure, play world of tactile, seasonally changing surfaces. Planting on roof, and timber surfaces welcome children and carers.

Light enters from the south through rooflights and glass blocks. Curvaceous and gently angled roof eaves and walls deny the rectalinear impact of much of the contemporary built environment.

Inside and outside space flows together during summer months for large groups whilst the inside needs to be cosy for the few in winter.

A secure wall of masonry addresses the boundary. Timber frame walls contain 200mm, and roof 300mm, of cellulose fibre insulation. A rain and grey water recycling system feeds the toilets, the majority of the water coming from the nearby skate bowl.
