So named because of its detached isolation within its setting in a cul-de-sac in East London. The unusual shape of the house derives from its odd shaped plot, a left-over triangle of land that became part of the garden of the adjacent house. The form and roof line respect the scale of the two-storey houses to one side whilst addressing three-storey houses on the other side of the road.
3-D drawings, based on a computer model, showed how the building would look from key angles.
The local authority rejected the planning application. We didn’t feel it had been given proper attention, and our view was justified when on appeal the Planning Inspectorate approved it, dismissing all of the Local Authority’s objections.
