The interior

Vajrasana is a former farm in Suffolk at which the London Buddhist Centre hosts residential retreats. the various agricultaral buildings have been pressed into service as meditation spaces and overnight accommodation.

The farmhouse has become the reception, cooking and dining space. We were asked to design a replacement for its small porch, to provide a meeting space and 'hub' for the complex.

We designed a centralised, pyramidal building, appropriate to its role as a centre and gathering point; with a gabled entrance to extend a welcome to arriving retreatants, glazing in all directions to express openness, and a vaulted ceiling to enhance the sense of enclosure.

Completed in 2008.
