359 Clapham Road

A large Grade II listed house divided into flats that has been squatted for many years. E-Arc Architects organised funding via Solon Co- operative Housing Services to renovate the building and let the flats to a co-operative, and incorporate embedded electricity generation in the form of 14kW of Photovoltaic Panels (specified by PV Systems) funded and monitored for two years by the BRE and funded by the DTI) and a gas-fired CHP plant (specified by EA Technology by way of a grant-funded feasibility study).

Constructive Individuals were commissioned to obtain Building Regulations approval and to complete detailed design for the building work. The building was viewed by the Local Authority as a test case in reaching accommodation between the apparently conflicting interests of energy conservation and generation, and conservation of the historic fabric of the building.

Work on the project involved us in some interesting and valuable research before the project was abandoned by the Client.
